VICTORIAN/ SCOTTISH: Lady Lily MacLeod has run away to escape an unwanted marriage. When she sees a train, she hides herself in a room filled with boxes and crates. Unfortunately, Lily is found by two footmen and forcibly taken to face the imposing Duke of Aberdeen, Tobias Campbell. Tobias is sympathetic to Lily’s plight and decides to help her despite not totally trusting her.
Beth Harrismith lives with her sister Jenny and her family. When Jenny is called away to a family emergency, she tells Beth to go to the planned ball without her but will have Mrs. Grayshott accompany her. Beth is sad to go without Jenny but reluctantly leaves anyway. Beth participates in all the activities under Mrs. Grayshott’s watchful eyes and even meets Marcus Nyeland.

An evening with a boring beginning ended in a stolen kiss and a promise that would lead to betrayal. Sarah meets the Earl of Markham at a ball. Their meeting leaves them both falling for each other instantly. Three weeks later, the Earl of Markham is betrothed to Sarah’s sister and not long after that, her sister dies from complications of a miscarriage.
Learning her brother, David Deare, received a letter from Roderick Usher, inviting him to visit, Madeleine encourages him to make the trip. He warns he barely remembers Usher from school and the family is eccentric — and cursed. Arriving at Usher House, Roderick is puzzled as to why David is there. Mentioning the letter, Roderick vehemently denies writing David.
