Archa-What? Archetyping: The Kick-A Secret Weapon Every Author Needs

Gregory Peck was hunkalicious. I can watch him in “Roman Holiday” again and again and never tire of it. His deep voice and the words he could speak with his eyes drew me into a happy little romance-induced coma.
I had 34 posters of Patrick Swayze—as Johnny Castle—stuck to my bedroom walls as a pre-teen. Was it his face or his voice? Um, no. But the man could dance, and play the bad boy like nobody’s business.
Fitzwilliam Darcy. Oh, Mr. Darcy. I won’t even go into the depths of my everlasting love for him.
My newest fave is a book character from Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Covenant Series. And he’s not even the main male character! Seth is a swaggering, pompous, braggart and I can’t get enough of him! He’s vibrant and hilarious, and he fills my giddy heart with joy!
So what do these four male characters have in common? Hardly anything—on the surface. And yet, they shine brighter than the rest—stick in my memory despite the thousands of characters I’ve read about or watched. Why?
