Franki’s mother, a career stripper, has a rule: “my men, my problem.” But when she leaves Franki alone with her current fling one fateful day, Franki must run for her life. Leaving her trailer park behind, she stumbles into the Sanchez family at a trucker bar. As she gets more and more entwined with the notorious drug lords, each day is a struggle for survival. Jack is determined to keep Franki safe from his vindictive brother Emilio, but he struggles with his own demons. As she feels her innocence slipping away moment by moment, Franki grapples with her growing desire for a man living a lifestyle she vowed she would never live.

In “Mi Familia,” KC Klein creates depth and humanity for characters that many would consider the dregs of society, instilling in readers a sense of empathy for their bad luck, despite their misdeeds. The characters possess their own sets of values, back-stories, and personalities that, respectively, endear or repulse. This character development really drives the reader to cheer for a happy ending for the couple, as the romance itself is at times underdeveloped and forced. It is told rather than felt. The storyline is paced perfectly, driving the reader’s emotional state to mirror that of the protagonists as they fight for their survival. The dialogue is well written, with each and every character possessing a voice and personality as unique as a fingerprint. KC Klein creates a world full of unexpected twists and turns and characters so perfectly imperfect that one cannot help but love them!
