Clare flees her home in a snowstorm rather than wed Sir Rollo. Her destination is the home of childhood friend Lady Alyss Roark. En route, she is thrown from her horse and lies unconscious in the snow, destined to freeze to death. Young Tom finds her riderless horse and convinces Sir Nicholas go out in the snowstorm to find the rider. When he finds her, she is blue and nearly frozen, but he is still taken by her incredible beauty. As she recovers, Sir Nicholas and Clare discover their mutual attraction. But she is still betrothed, against her will, to Sir Rollo, and Sir Nicholas has always remained true to his knight’s oath. When Clare is forced to return home, Sir Nicholas follows knowing he has a hard choice: honor the knight’s code or to follow his heart.

“A Winter Knight: Knights of Destiny” is a beautiful story of forbidden love. Through skillfully written discourse, one can imagine the snowy fields and muddy, churned up roads Sir Nicholas travels. The storyline is quite familiar — the handsome knight comes to the rescue of a damsel in distress. The character of Sir Rollo does not have much depth and his only characteristic is greed. However, all of the other characters not associated with Rollo have unique personalities and voices. The world building is fantastic and complex with Roark’s, Sir Nicholas’, and Clare’s homes all described wonderfully. An enjoyable tale, this promises to be a truly delightful series!
