Historical

Shelene Hightower would love nothing more than to be able to spend the rest of her days with Roman Forrester, a spy for the Crown of England. Refusing to live the same lonely life her mother did, Shelene refused Roman’s proposal when they were younger. Thinking time would heal her heart, Shelene is shocked when Roman shows up on her doorstep to bear bad news and all of her old feelings resurface. With a promise that they will stay together forever, a hasty wedding finds the two married, but just as quickly, Roman is scurrying off on one last mission leaving Shelene both hurt and angry. Shelene, traveling on to her homeland of Spain to claim her mother’s estate, must decide if she can live life wondering when and if her husband will ever come back to her or suffer the family embarrassment of asking the church for an annulment for a new beginning.

Starting in England and finishing in Spain, this novel takes you on a journey from start to finish. Born in Spain, Shelene’s love for her homeland is evident throughout, yet she never devalues England as being important to those around her. The writing is so beautifully done that it is practically impossible to put down. The plot builds the suspense superbly, leaving the reader on the edge of their seat rooting for Shelene and Roman to find their way again. Although not terrible, the story would benefit from a more thorough edit which caused a bit of distraction. Overall, a fantastic read that will touch the core of one’s heart.
