A collection of three novellas, “When the Heart Brings You Home” features “Winter Light”, a story about a troubled little girl, Lydia, who brings her single father, Luke, and a lonely book shop owner, Allie, together. In “Light the Heart Home”, Sophie and Emma haven’t seen each other in years, but a phone call and a bunch of secrets brings the two sisters together for the holidays again. Between secrets to untangle and healing to be done, this Christmas in their home town might bring a Christmas miracle as well. Finally, in “Home for the Holidays”, Susan Hardwick left home for work but finds herself questioning her future. A trip home to visit and a run-in with an intriguing photographer with difficulties named Arlo makes her consider if it’s time to return home for good.

A delightful holiday collection, “When the Heart Brings You Home” introduces a handful of people having a rough time during the Christmas season for various reasons, and brings them together in both romantic relationships and as family. As novellas, none of the stories have much time to develop depth or take any of the romances beyond some initial sparks or reigniting some former feelings. However, the short length allows the reader to fit in some Christmas joy on an exhausting afternoon or before bed, and teases an enjoyable small-town community where many stories might be found. Overall, readers who prefer short reads will find plenty to love in this collection!
