A Novel Idea: Advertising & The Internet

If you’re like me, the first novel you put into the wild did poorly. Low sales no matter what you tried, and it almost caused you to give up. Don’t despair. There are many things out there that will help, and the most effective of them all is advertising.
But where to start? Print ads or Google placement? Reviews to gain traction or pay for reviews to get known? How about radio or billboards?
Readers use the digital world, and if you’re selling ebooks, your best advertisement is where your readers are, online. Don’t do anything to advertise where your readers are not.
Let’s go over what options are out there for you and how to take advantage of them. It’s pretty simple, when you think about it. Spend money where people are, and they’ll see your ad. So, let’s get going and learn about the wonderful world of advertising.

A Plan
It will help if you have a plan. Not just any simple one, but a very detailed and extensive plan that outlines step-by-step what you will be doing and when. The plan is to build your copy, get reviews, and place advertisements where needed. For those who are not marketing masterminds, find someone to assist. There are many out there who can help, but some will take advantage of your needs, so be careful.
Reedsy has many authors and marketers advertising their services. Be warned, it’s costly, and they’ll only give you the plan and a few hours of pep talks. It is up to you to do all the work. I put out feelers on it just a few months ago, and quotes of $1,200+ came in. They were a little over the budget on the project.
You could try places like Upwork, but I’m afraid they will give the same response. Just a little too expensive. Don’t bother with Fiverr, you’ll just be throwing your money away. The standards of the workers who will push for your money has declined, and the company does not protect buyers against sub-standard work anymore.
