Genre:
Young Adult

The city of Arcania is being terrorized by a criminal madman calling himself Fortune, who continually robs banks and kills almost everyone within. When Nova Benson and her little sister Star accompany their father to the bank, the brief pit stop becomes earth-shattering as Fortune strikes Star down and leaves Nova devastated. With her sister’s belief in her unusual strength and impenetrable skin haunting her every thought, Nova takes to the streets to hunt down her sister’s killer. She doesn’t expect to receive help from the new students Cole and Penelope Warner, but with their own abilities to hide, they might be the very help she needs. None of them planned on more than tracking Fortune down, but in the process love and family might change everything.

A paranormal YA novel any superhero fan can enjoy, this first book in the “Supernova” series starts things off with a bang! With a lot of world building, and a steady pace, the story has some basic strengths that give it an interesting (if simple) premise. Although the romance is basic and predictable and the conflict and action are minimal to start, “Heroes of Arcania” will easily catch the attention of any YA lover. Despite the cliff hanger, readers will enjoy watching the characters come of age, explore what they can do, and determine what they will give to reach their goal.
