The Chosen Knights (The Angel Knights #1)

Mary
Ting
Genre:
Young Adult

PARANORMAL:  The first day of high school is hard for any teenager – especially if one is a teenaged demon-slaying angel.  Lucia is one such angel who has been tasked, along with her brother Zack and her uncle Davin, to root out demons at a high school in Hawaii.  No amount of training in the art of war can prepare her for the complex battlefield of a typical American high school.  Add a strong attraction for a cute demon named Eli to the mix and Lucia is in for more than can be anticipated by the powers in charge.

“The Chosen Knights” is one-part paranormal, one part mystery and one part sweet romance. The book is well researched, taking its premise from the myth of the Knights Templar and blending that history well into the modern-day story.  The timing and pacing of the story is superb and keeps the reader turning pages to find out more.  Ms. Ting does a wonderful job of painting the complex emotions of passion and fear that comes with first love.

The characters have complex histories and as such, the author spends a little too much time in the novel explaining their backstories instead of allowing them to be revealed naturally through characterization.   However, this does not interfere with the reader's enjoyment. “The Chosen Knights” is a page-turning mystery with a supernatural twist that entertains to the last page!
