Marise attends St. James private school where she meets twin brothers, Aiden and Ethan, who are as different as night and day. Her parents were killed when she was younger, right in front of her, but she survived, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents. Aiden and Ethan never knew or met their father and were raised by their mother. Both adore their mother and have been going through many changes they don’t understand, which resulted with them leaving the last school. Aiden is determined to forget what happened and move on with his life. Ethan fears what he is becoming. When both meet Marise, the new girl, everything starts to change for both.

“The Balance” is a brilliant and engaging start to a new series. The reader is pulled into the story from the very beginning and will find the premise of the story remarkably interesting and different. One will enjoy getting to know the main characters and where the story is going. Kirby Hall has created a unique world with good versus evil, angels versus demons and something in between. There are different genres in the story such as paranormal, suspense, romance, young adult themes and even magic, which brings so much more to the story. The family dynamics of the story with the twin brothers being close at one time but aren’t anymore because of something that happened keeps one extremely interested in what really happened. There are numerous plot twists that will keep the reader engaged and guessing until the very end. This tale will leave readers excited for the next book in the series.!
