Pierce Byrne, Baron Markham, spies Caroline Hawkins at a ball. She piques his interest with her high-necked grey gown, thick spectacles and dull hair pulled severely back. He thinks of her as his "little grey mouse", and pursues her at every ball. Caroline wears this attire to repel suitors, as she has no desire to wed. Caroline just wants to care for the children’s home.

Josephine ‘Jo’ Rayburn and Rhys Harrison work well together. She is a detective who is hiding part of her past from Rhys, while he works as a coroner’s assistant, after dropping out of medical school to care for his mentally handicapped brother. There’s a new drug in town, and apparently, its formulation isn’t quite perfect yet, as bodies keep showing up in various parts of Alabama.

HISTORICAL/REGENCY:  This story opens with a tragedy that involves Nicolas and his new wife, Alice, who commits suicide on their wedding night. Five years later, Nicolas, who is now the Earl of Darby, is still carrying the guilt of her death, and is seeking redemption by hunting the man who is indirectly responsible for her choice that fateful night in 1814.

CONTEMPORARY:  As the audiobook opens, the close community spirit of Nestled Hollow, Colorado, becomes evident when a storm brings a tree down on the local coffee shop, "Love a Latte". Within minutes, neighbors and friends are there to protect the building and ensure everyone is safe; within hours, there are volunteers to move the tree and help with repairs.

When her cattle start disappearing, Addie suspects Ramsey, but she lacks proof.
