Bewitched by a Vampire (Immortal Hearts of San Francisco #6)

Susan Griscom
Narrators: John York and Gracia Gilland
Genre:
Paranormal

PARANORMAL: Vanessa Creamer and Lane DeMarco are in a committed relationship, but not married. Both are vampires, and live in a mansion in San Francisco with the vampire family they have created out of their friends and bandmates. Lane has a twin brother, Cian, who is married to Vanessa’s best friend, Maggie. Maggie really wants to have a baby, so she talks Vanessa into conjuring a spell that allows her to get pregnant; however, the spell backfires, and ends up working on Vanessa instead of Maggie. Lane is experiencing a lot of inner turmoil and doubt regarding his relationship with Vanessa, fearing that he is not enough for her. The pregnancy brings it all to a head and forces him to face some of his deepest fears about fatherhood.

There are references throughout this story to prior occurrences from earlier in the series. If one is not familiar with these events, they won’t be very meaningful; however, they could add interest if those events are already known. The pace during the first half of the book is moderate, as it provides the necessary background setup for the denouement at the end. The tension and pace pick up considerably toward the final third of the audiobook and provide for a fitting and exciting conclusion.

Both narrators do a wonderful job of bringing these characters to life. Both narrators have to occasionally give voice to the same character during their respective chapters; consequently, the characters sound somewhat different from each narrator, depending on whose turn it is to speak. However, this doesn’t disrupt the story at all, and the sound quality is still very high. The production quality is also excellent, and there aren’t any unexpected noises. Vampires become sexy and desirable within this series!
