Genre:

SUSPENSE/THRILLER:  Formerly a Keeper, now a Watcher, Dev Geary is given the chance to return to the human realm in order to find a way to recreate the secret of what killed him. In order to carry out his quest, he has been given orders to work with a human named Meda Gabriel. Her father’s research proves to be helpful to the Network and Meda and Dev are able to work together to create stones that will shield the Keepers. Abel, a Betrayer, wants nothing more than to put a stop to Dev and his little band of Keepers but will Meda and Dev’s experiments be enough to stop the Betrayers before they cross over to the Watcher Realm and destroy everything that is good?

“The Crossing Realms” series should be read in order. There are characters from the first book that continue through “The Watcher” and they might be better understood if previously introduced. Rebecca Neely has created an unusual new paranormal species. Readers may find that the plot, although it has a few unique twists and turns, is a stagnant storyline that is regularly reproduced. Unfinished editing also takes away from the story because Ms. Neely has a tendency to mismatch the names of her characters. Readers hoping to relate to some of the characters may find themselves disappointed because of the strange depictions and odd behaviors of the main characters. “The Watcher (Crossing Realms Book 2)” is a lackluster paranormal, but readers who appreciate sci-fi might enjoy reading the story.
