COMEDY:  In this fantasy-comedy Hym and Hur are a young couple who are not exactly human.  They never age and have been in love for more than a century. Possessed of an array of magical abilities, they pass the time either playing pranks on humankind or doing good deeds.  In their latest prank, they become involved with the odd character of Death who puts limitations on their prank, some they don’t realize right away. During the prank Hym and Hur try to save the relationship of a human couple who are meant for one another but need a bit of help. This of course, doesn’t quite go as planned, and soon Hym and Hur are in a race to break the contract before it’s too late.

A fun short story, with quirky characters throughout, and an interesting plot. Those who have read many characterizations of Death will find Frey’s version to be different, and readers will be torn between approval and odd disbelief. Hym and Hur are both all-powerful and young in thought. They act like the personification of boys and girls everywhere with Hym trying to see what mischief he can cause, while Hur is a busy matchmaking romantic. While not all bad, neither are they all good, so hijinks ensue, whatever they do. Despite their moral ambiguity, neither desire the destruction of the world so the reader will enjoy seeing how Hym and Hur manage to save the day and get the human couple together. Quick, fun, well done!
