Highland Fate (Guardians of Scotland #3) 

HISTORICAL: Hawk, a dragon and warrior chieftain of Helmfirth, thinks himself indestructible. That is, until a foe comes and challenges Hawk, almost mortally wounding him. When he wakes from his battle, he finds himself ensconced in an Abby. Sister Kate has lived in Dunfermline Abbey her entire life. She knows nothing of life outside the four walls. When Hawk arrives she is curious about this stranger and where he might come from. He stirs longings in her that she never knew she had. Now Hawk and Sister Kate have to make important decisions. Will Sister Kate really leave the Abbey and all she has ever known or will her vows keep her locked behind her prison walls? What will Hawk do? What does he want to do? Decisions will change both of their lives for good or bad.

Victoria Zak is an excellent story-teller! Her characters are real and jump off the page. “Highland Fate” is unique and a wonderful mix of supernatural, romance, and life- altering decisions. Although “Highland Fate” is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. Readers might enjoy reading the previous books prior to reading “Highland Fate” but it is not entirely necessary. The only concern readers might find is the pace of the book. There are places where the story seems to slow down and then picks rapidly up in other places, but overall, readers will find that Ms. Zak knows how to create stories that captivate and entertain.
