FANTASY:  The sins of the father are the sins of the child in the Twelve Systems. Lilian, designated heir by her father at the tender age of 4, now suffers for his crimes. Many believe she should be as dead as her criminal father, Remus Gariten, yet she has instead been bonded in an apprenticeship. None other than Monsignor Lucius Mercio, Preeminence of Serengeti and Blooded Dagger, has taken the fallen young woman under his wing. He and many within his cartouche are aware that Lilian holds within her a brilliant intelligence that is the key to controlling the systems.

"Bright Star" is a science fiction diorama brilliantly crafted to meet the ever growing science fiction enthusiasts. The second in a series, it is able to stand alone, but might be better understood after reading the first book in the series. The characters are the highlight of this complex world of political intrigue, religion, relationships, family honor, and science.

The relationship between Lucius and Lilian goes beyond the typical societal expectation, opening them both for detailed scrutiny. The supporting cast helps maintain balance within both the plot and overall story. The cadence of the story takes time to adapt to, but fully makes sense as the reader becomes accustomed to the hierarchy of the cartouches and cartel. Start to finish it makes one stop and think numerous times about society and what the future could possibly hold.
