Genre:
New Adult

Phoebe Reede has grown up in and around the pits of Australia’s race car circuit, thanks to her famous driver dad, Declan Reede. Sick of having to prove she’s worthy of her own accomplishments as a driver, and overwhelmed by her home life, Phoebe ends up on a six week cross-country tour of the United States. On her eighteenth birthday, she meets a sexy southerner named Beauregard “Beau” Miller. They have an immediate connection, despite her withholding her real name from him. Before they part ways, he leaves her a cell phone so they can keep in touch. The rest of Phoebe’s trip is spent in flirtatious banter with the twenty-four year old Beau, via calls and texts—and a few more days that turn both their lives upside down.

“Phase” was a wild ride from page one, drawing the reader into the uniquely original storyline of a female race car driver phasing into a new world for herself. The two main characters, gutter-mouthed Phoebe, and sultry southern gentleman, Beau, ignite the pages with their mutual attraction and sizzling sex scenes. It’s cleanly written with sharp dialog and plenty of heated, emotional turmoil, but the story has drawbacks. Research would have shown the author that no one wears flannel, nor do they cover with blankets around a roaring bonfire in the deep-south, on the 4th of July. The ending was rather abrupt and unsatisfying, leaving this reviewer frustrated and annoyed. However, readers with heartier appetites for unfinished endings will enjoy the set up for the next book in the series, sure to be equally entertaining.
