Mystery

Shandra has only recently connected with her Nez Perce family, having been kept from them by her parents. She has an otherworldly connection to her late grandmother that makes her something of a seer, even if she doesn’t always understand what she’s seeing. Her boyfriend Ryan is a police detective and couldn’t be more supportive, and actually believes in her ability. She gets a call that her cousin is wanted for murder the night after her grandmother shows up in her dreams. Ryan knows she’s up to no good and takes time off to be with her, though a regular cop on a reservation isn’t exactly welcomed. She doesn’t know who is guilty, but she will find out.

This is a standalone series continuation of the main characters: Shandra and Ryan. Ms. Jager does an excellent job of sprinkling in previous events in an organic way so readers will know what happened without being overwhelmed by an info dump. The continuing evolution of her relationship with her new-found family is heartwarming. The mystery in this tale is light enough to be safe for a younger audience, though the final why of the whodunit will surprise many. Word misuse, wonky grammar, and inconsistent proper nouns, by themselves, aren’t noticeable, but there are enough throughout to be a frustration to readers. The love between Shandra and Ryan is sweet and it’s nice to read about a hero who 100% supports his heroine, even when she makes not-so-smart decisions. Readers will want to go back to the beginning and into the future with these two.
