The Case of the Surly Surrogate (Safe Harbor Medical Mysteries Book 2)

Jacqueline
Diamond
Genre:
Mystery

When father-to-be Wes Choate is found in the swamp drugged, beaten, and dead, the suspect list is rather short. Mr. Choate's brother-in-law, Parker, has made it well known on numerous occasions that he does not approve of his sister’s husband. His great-grandmother has other ideas, however, and she enlists the help of the Choates' OBGYN Eric Darcy and his roommate Tory, a private investigator, to solve the case before the police can get it wrong.

“The Case of the Surly Surrogate” is a quick read and perfect for an afternoon or weekend getaway. It stands fairly well on its own, but as the second in the Safe Harbor Medical Mysteries series it will make more sense to readers who have read the first book. The characters in the “Safe Harbor” series are interesting and readers can identify with some of them, but some of the minor characters seem to fall flat and serve little purpose. Some of the background information seems to interfere with the story itself, and the ending feels a little rushed. Nonetheless, author Jacqueline Diamond knows how to craft a cozy mystery that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Readers will be clamoring for more and wanting the next book to come out before they riot!
