HISTORICAL:  Hollin Hughes is beautiful, a mother of a darling baby girl, and widowed after her husband dies in suspicious circumstances at the local mine. Unfortunately, the mine manager seems to be hiding things, and her beauty is a distraction from uncovering the truth. So, she whips up a disguise as an ugly elderly woman and hires on as the mine cook to investigate. Deputy Seth Harter is looking for the truth too. Unable to charm his way to answers, he poses as a rough dynamite man to investigate the numerous unexplained deaths. When their undercover investigations at the Crescent Creek Mine collide, Hollin and Seth will have to decide to either team up or go it alone to stop the criminal activities at the mine before anyone else dies.

A heartwarming western mystery and sweet romance, “Dumplings and Dynamite” is the latest addition to the “Baker City Brides” series but can stand alone. Full of humor, a slow building romance, and a clever cozy mystery, this story rounds out the plot with a bit of adventure as well. With a cute and cleverly used cast of side characters, the author successfully pushes the story along without relying on the typical insta-love tropes. While the romance might be a bit predictable and the main characters are not unique, the mystery itself has surprising twists and turns to engross the reader and makes the ending come too soon. A clear win for western romances and a must read for historical cozy mystery fans!
