Duncan MacCoinnich is heading to Inverness in order to start a new smuggling venture with the MacDonald clan. On the way to his destination, he hears a woman screaming and goes to investigate. He finds Tilda MacKenzie tied up and three British soldiers attempting to assault her. Duncan rescues her by killing one of the soldiers and chasing away the others. Little does he know, Tilda is the MacKenzie chieftain’s only daughter. The Mackenzies are rivals to the MacDonalds. To show thanks for saving his daughter, MacKenzie brings him into the family business, unknowingly making him a wanted man. The only way to save his life is for Tilda to marry him — and to marry him means a life on the run.

Sit tight; this historical fiction will take readers on an adventure across the seas and highlands! No exaggeration, this book is nonstop action from beginning to end. In fact, there is no reprieve. The action often leads to unrelenting suffering that would be too much for anyone. There needs to be some interlude to develop the characters, although Duncan and Tilda’s love throughout all of it is admirable. Even though they do not know each other well, their love seems to get stronger with every obstacle. Duncan is a hero through and through, but respects women like Tilda who are also strong and can save themselves. Readers who are looking to escape reality will want to pick up this novel, filled with love, highlanders, treachery, and adventure.
