Spy Another Day (The King’s Rogues, Book 3)

Genre:
Historical

The small village of Stannum in Cornwall has seen better times. The tin mine that employed many of the villagers has closed leaving them all in poverty. Alexandra “Allie” Gedding and her twin brother Phillip, who has inherited Stannum House, feel the burden of their town’s demise. David Manston has secrets of his own and is content living his life in seclusion. He did, however, help Phillip and Allie mediate the grievances the townspeople had with them over the closure of the mine. David thought his work was done and should go back to his life in seclusion; Allie and Phillip had other plans and now consider him a great friend and confidant. One lonely night, Allie reached out to her godmother, Lady Abigail Ridgeway. Months later, Lady Abigail shows up at Stannum house unannounced, riddled with secrets and plans of her own. Will all of their secrets stay hidden or will the truth set them all free?

The conclusion to the King’s Rogues series is a remarkable piece of alternative historical fiction. Readers will feel the desperation of the villagers and the emotional turmoil Allie and Phillip face trying to find a way to help themselves and the people they feel responsible for. There are many sub-plots intertwined with the main plotline, but this does not take away from, nor does it hinder the storyline as they all flow together flawlessly. The only issue readers may have is starting at book three and trying to catch up. Readers of historical suspense and/or historical romance need to grab this series and get lost in Ms. Carter’s works.
