Amy Whitfield is trying to save her marriage, but her efforts are in vain when she comes home to find a note that her husband, Wesley, has left her. Before the information can sink in, however, she gets a call that he’s been in a car accident and is in a coma. She decides to use the time that he’s in a coma to try to be the girl that he would never want to leave when he wakes up. She asks his handsome neurologist to teach her how to keep a man, but then her feelings get muddled. Does she remain true to her vows?

The premise of this story sounds like it will be a fun romp of self-discovery and there are moments where the author hits that note. Unfortunately, it becomes difficult to identify with our heroine when her husband is lying in a coma and she’s out dating his doctor and enjoying his kisses. One does get backstory as to why Amy is this way, but her actions often seem petty and immature, as if she isn’t able to think through the consequences of her choices. Dr. Reilly is a well-written hero, though, who tries hard to be honorable in the face of an emotionally charged situation--- where a good outcome that leads to a happily-ever-after seems impossible to find. This story does offer some insight into bad marriages and why women stay and readers will be turning pages to see how it all turns out.
