Home to Stay

Matt and Jessie have been together forever. They have a child and love like theirs is rare. But sometimes love isn’t enough…especially when Matt is hardly ever home due to his very dangerous job. It takes him away for months at a time, with no communication with his family possible. That leaves Jessie alone to deal with their son Brody, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, not to mention the stress and strain of wondering if your husband will return home alive.

Divorce is the only option Jessie sees in order to handle her own anxiety. However, when Matt shows up after being gone for months, he learns that Jessie is now home-schooling Brody, which he is vastly against. However, telling Jessie he plans on retiring is the truth…well most of it. When she finds out the truth, all of it, will she still want Matt back in her and their son’s life?

Taking on a character with autism, and doing it well is a tough gig, one that Ms. James did wonderfully. She writes with deep emotion and intensity, and this story isn’t one of those fluffy-type romances. Jessie and Matt have a lot of issues. The largest ones seem to be overcome a bit too easily, and a certain part makes one wonder about the reality of the situation. Regardless, Ms. James is a talented writer and one that should be added to every reader’s bookshelf.
