CHICK-LIT:  Bethany Parks is used to working behind the scenes in radio advertising, but has decided to step out of her comfort zone to find adventure and romance. She applies and is accepted for Real Love; getting the month off from work with the understanding that the radio station will get the inside scoop in hopes that it will boost the radio stations’ rating. Among the thirteen other contestants she meets Carter, Holly and Tyson. Her experience shapes the way she sees things when she returns from Los Angeles to her everyday life.

Bethany recounts her two-week experience and the aftermath, treating the reader to a good balance of narrative and flowing dialogue. However, for all intents and purposes this is a fictional reality show in book form. In so being, it is largely predictable. Seventy-five percent of this work concerns the production of the show, while patient readers may find the last twenty-five percent worth the wait; it is when the title character gets home that a mild twist enters the picture. One may also appreciate that there is not a loose end to be had; a statement that takes the epilogue into consideration. There is a true antagonist whose modus operandi is the puzzle to be solved.

Reality show lovers may well get lost in this tale.
