PARANORMAL: Cara Alari is a wetlands ecologist working in Venice. She loves it there, as her family used to live there, but left during WWII to escape Mussolini. Tony Pelligrini is a lion shifter who was framed for a murder he didn’t commit ten years ago. He’s been avoiding going home ever since because he knows he will end up in jail if he returns. But something is pulling him back to Venice during Carnevale, and he hopes that his mask will hide his identity from those who would want to imprison him. Unfortunately, events transpire that cause him to reveal his identity, all because he and Cara do the right thing and help someone who needs it.

The descriptions of Venice and Carnevale are vivid and interesting and draw the listener deeper into the story. The external conflicts of each of the protagonists are mostly defined; however, they are clearer for Tony than for Cara. The world building of dragons, lions, and Fire Maidens, and the hierarchy of power in Venice is presented believably while depending heavily upon listener’s imaginations!  The pacing and tension are tight, making for a fun listening experience.

This recording is produced well, and there aren’t any unexpected or distracting noises. Unfortunately, the melodious sound of the Italian language falls flat with this narrator. If readers can overlook this, the narration is fine in the other areas that are important. She conveys the emotion behind the behaviors of the characters, and she is able to tell the story believably. Her descriptions are good, and it’s easy to tell which character is speaking throughout the story. Ms. Osborne is able to convey the intent of the author in a believable manner. An enjoyable listen from start to finish.
