Sam Singleton finds a “boy” in the kitchen pantry of the Knight Gleason’s Gambling Galleria where he works as security and lives. Upon closer investigation, Sam realizes the boy is no boy at all, but a young woman by the name of Izzy, or Isadora McDougall. Izzy, who has run from her family, is given work and a place to live at the Galleria. While she starts to heal and learns to trust those around her, especially Sam, Sam notices the impact Izzy has on his heart. Sam vows to protect her from all harm, even her family. When Izzy’s conniving family shows up in Little Creede to take her back—and away from Sam—he must protect his new bride with all he has, possibly even his life.
“The Runaway Bride” is the latest book in “The Little Creede” series. Though part of a series, this story stands on its own. This story is a real attention-grabber, filled with passion, love, intrigue, and suspense. The characters are well-developed and believable. The story is well-crafted and written, though at times the story drags and seems too long in parts. There are some graphic physical abuse scenes between Izzy and her betrothed, Mr. Dalton, which may be triggering for some readers. The author brings the reader on a western adventure with intrigue, danger, friendship, healing and love.
