Why Romance Articles Make Easy Targets

It’s the same argument every time: they’re unrealistic, exaggerated, full of purple prose, and not worth the paper they’re printed on.  At best the comment will be made—with a wink and a nudge—that they are porn for women.
Obviously these criticisms are being penned by folks who haven’t actually picked up a romance novel and read it cover to cover anytime in the last twenty years.  More often than not, the critic turns out to be a man—one who just doesn’t get how educated, sophisticated, modern women can enjoy such old-fashioned drivel.
