A Chapter A Day, Keeps the Cravings At Bay?

Browsing Facebook one dreary day, I came across an ad for an app that gave a snippet to what looked like a very good werewolf story. I clicked on it and finally found myself downloading the Galatea app onto my phone. Galatea is a sister app to Inkitt and professes to be “shaping the future of reading to better suit the digital age.” Naturally, I went to the book I had seen the snippet of and began reading. The format is set up as a serial, with a new chapter being added each day.
I found there are some really unique things about apps like Galatea. For instance, as you are reading through the chapters, if there is tense moment, your phone or tablet will vibrate to the character’s heartbeat. There are also some sound effects that occur during specific points. This is easily switched off in the settings, if you prefer. To be honest, I switched the sound effect off quite quickly, as I kept thinking I had a text coming through.
As far as writing goes, the quality of the novels on Galatea are good. They're descriptive, although most are set in first person, which is interesting because, in this format, it can allow the reader to feel more involved in the story.
Now, here’s the rub. The chapters are released every 24 hours, with the option to buy points and open the following chapters sooner. There are also other ways to gain points. Commenting on chapters awards the reader one point per day, joining the Facebook and Instagram groups also awards points.
