Zoe Hargrove is a rookie bodyguard on her first solo assignment. She's to pose as chef to the eccentric inventor Lyman Prescot. Nick Rossetti is an ex-cop-turned-bodyguard also on his first assignment; he's the Prescot's driver.

Zoe and Nick don't hit it off right away and both are hiding their identity. Somebody is trying to scare Prescot into selling the rights to his invention, a robotic sous chef. Zoe's mistrust of men puts her on the offensive with Nick, who keeps on giving her hot/cold messages. Their problem right now is to find who the threat is and stop them from getting closer to their clients! Nick needs to keep things together and when the assignment is done he'll focus on Zoe.

The story starts out slow but then it picks up speed quite nicely. The author did a good job of the main characters' attraction to each other. The reader will also come across some shady characters that add mystery and keeps the reader wondering who the villain is. Even though there is a drop-dead gorgeous chauffeur who sometimes wants the girl then he doesn't, clearly he can't make up his mind. One might guess that Nick needs to be a hero before he gets the girl. The story flows nicely between the main characters and the reader can see the spark taking flame. The author did try to paint Nick in a sympathetic light as a wounded heart and hesitant in making his move to get his feelings straight. The story is interesting, and is an easy read.
