Thief of the Night Guild (Queen of Thieves #2)

DARK FANTASY:  Ilanna, Journeyman of House Hawk, desires nothing more than to procure her freedom from the Night Guild. Her thievery skills are second to none, and she earns more for them than any other Hawk. She takes more risks, and is braver than most. What no one knows is that her freedom means everything, and for no other reason than to be able to raise her son. The only person she trusts with the knowledge that she has a child is Ria, the child’s caregiver, and she wants to keep it that way. She will NOT have her son brought to the attention of the Night Guild; he will not endure what she has — EVER. She devises a plan to steal enough to earn her freedom, seek revenge for the deaths of her friends, and to be the mother her son needs and deserves. It is an enormous risk, but one she has no choice but to take.

Holy smokes…what an amazing storyteller Mr. Peloquin is! His characters come to life and jump right off of the page. Ilanna is a seriously tough cookie, but she has vulnerabilities that  soften her tough exterior and expose her heart. In order to understand where she comes from, read the first book. It isn't necessary, but recommended. While this book is dark and intense, it will grip the reader by the throat and not let go, leaving them to wonder what happens in the next installment. This book does end on a cliffhanger, but most ends are tied up nicely. Awesome job, Mr. Peloquin!
