Switching Lives

Lexi and her husband Derick are taking their two daughters to the beach for a weekend getaway with Lexi’s sister Abby and her husband Ben.  Years of infertility have caused Ben and Abby’s marriage to hit the rocks, and Lexi warns her girls this may be the last time they see Uncle Ben.  The next morning, Lexi wakes up and discovers that not only do Abby and Derick believe they are married to each other, her own daughters are calling her Aunt Lexi. Confused and angry, Lexi and Ben return to the house Ben and Abby had shared only to find that every picture and document indicates that Lexi and Ben are, in fact, married.  As Lexi struggles to find out what has happened to her life, she finds herself torn between her growing attraction to Ben and wanting to return to her life as mother to her girls, which means being Derick’s wife again.

Lisa Rector wastes no time grabbing and pulling the reader into the story.  The confusion and frustration that Lexi feels is clearly conveyed.  Unfortunately, her confusion and faithfulness to the man she believes to be her true husband, doesn’t leave a lot of room for Lexi to explore a relationship with Ben.  While there are sparks, what does develop feels more of a resignation to circumstances rather than an organic relationship of its own.  Despite some flaws, a compelling plot with enough twists to keep the pages turning make “Switching Lives” an engaging read.
