To Stop a Shadow (Spirit Chasers Book 2)

Genre:
Paranormal

Trent Austin is young, good-looking and rich.  Saddled with the run-down Victorian monstrosity that belonged to his reclusive and dearly departed uncle, he needs to get rid of the eye-sore fast.  Only the best real estate agent in town will be able to make the dreary home saleable.  Trent must put aside his misgivings to ask Trina Austin, the only woman who can do the job to help him.  Trina Sanders still feels bad about dumping Trent three months ago, so she is determined to ignore her conflicted feelings for the sexy lawyer and get the job done.  However, it soon becomes apparent that the old house is haunted, and the target of the malevolent force is Trent.  With the help of her psychic friend, Trina is determined to save Trent’s soul.

“To Stop a Shadow” is full of twists and turns and things that go bump in the night.  The author’s descriptive prose does a great job of creating a malevolent atmosphere in the old Victorian house.   The reveal of the paranormal events is paced well throughout the story creating tension for the reader.  However, as characters, Trent and Trina are perfect and sweet to the point of being saccharine and because of this, there is very little in these one-dimensional characters for the reader to relate to.  The conflict that keeps their characters from committing to each other is contrived and easily overcome and as such contributes little to the storyline.  "To Stop a Shadow” is saved by its ghostly elements and the surprising twist at the end.  A good read.
