SCI-FI:  Earth has been decimated by monsters who cross the weakened barriers separating our dimension from countless others.   Max Masters is a paranormal marshal who protects the last vestiges of humanity from otherworldly marauders.  The grisly murder of her boss leads Max into an investigation partnered with her ex-boyfriend Priest.  Events spin out of control, putting both her and Priest’s life in danger.  Max must use all her resources to save herself, the world and the man she loves.

Ms. Ashley’s story contains elements that are a fresh and creative reimagining of the paranormal.  Max is an inventive and charismatic heroine with an original and distinctive personality.  Priest is also a well-constructed and compelling character that the reader enjoys getting to know.  However, there are many other secondary characters introduced at a rapid pace throughout the story whose presence serve only to advance the plot.  Much of the narrative at the beginning of the book concentrates on the “will they, won’t they” question of Max and Priest’s inevitable sexual encounter.  That time might be better spent establishing the setting for the reader as there is a lack of context for the many otherworldly creatures that pop in and out of the plot.  Some of the edits in the text were left in the final draft.  It was a real disappointment to the reader that the story ends abruptly in the middle of the action without a resolution.  “Godmonster” is a book with a lot of unrealized potential.
