Alex Tailisin has grown up alongside humans for twenty-six years. Adopted as a youngster, she has never known her family, other than her Aunt Quinn. When mysterious tattoos appear on her body and she develops powers she cannot understand, other supernaturals are able to detect her magic and attack. In a whirlwind of events, her aunt calls a Dragon Guardian named Collum Thronus to protect Alex and keep her safely hidden. Their attraction is strong and before Alex knows it, he has claimed her as his mate and whisked her away to safety.  Will Collum, King of the Dragons, be able to protect her from those who would destroy her?

“Fire Born” is a fast-paced action adventure! Magic abounds as Alex comes into her powers and discovers her true family. The story is creative and unique, and fantasy readers will love to see so many magical creatures come together. Some characters felt underdeveloped, however, and lack depth. The hero feels more like a bully at times, shouting at his servants or attempting to control his mate, and has little redeeming qualities. The connection between Alex and Collum felt shallow and based on lust more than on love, as it develops rather abruptly. It would be intriguing to see Alex struggle more with the intense changes in her life. Another edit would be beneficial, especially toward the end of the book. With a little more development and attention to style, this story has lots of potential!
