Dragon Laird (Dragon Spawn Chronicles Book 1)

FANTASY:  Rhiannon MacKay learns of the prophesy where she must lie with the enemy, Dylan MacGregor, to save the world from certain evil. Shortly after, she dresses up like a boy in order to go to war to look after her older brother Robbie. The MacGregors win and Rhiannon is taken prisoner. Dylan suspects this young “boy” is keeping secrets and assigns the “boy” to work for him. Rhiannon’s secret is quickly revealed, and, after she has a bath, Dylan falls for the beautiful maiden. They go through the ritual of the choosing, which binds their souls and later lie together, which binds their hearts. Now the two are strong enough to battle the evil sorcerer who is determined to take Rhiannon for his own and then kill her for her powers.

“Dragon Laird” is captivating from chapter one. The main characters, Rhiannon and Dylan, are well-written with lots of depth and backstories. This turns them into viable people that one can truly relate to. The world building is awesome and divinely described throughout the story. The prologue, which adds little to the tale and drags, doesn’t even begin to prepare the reader for the wonder of the story to follow.  This romantic legend leads the reader on the adventure of a lifetime. During this quest there are dragons to behold, puzzles to cipher, and mazes to follow, all while staying ahead of the evil sorcerer.
