SCI-FI/DYSTOPIAN:  Indra is an Outlier, part of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world. Her group is at the bottom of the food chain. She serves the Sovereign who are inside the walled city with the remaining technology. She makes the journey through the wastelands to serve the Sovereign, so her family can have a better life. The Fortis have abused the Outliers for centuries and Indra finds herself a target. She's saved by Asa and despite him being a Fortis guard, there's something different about him. Indra suddenly finds her world ripped apart and thrown into a world even worse than the one she has come from where even Asa cannot help her. Indra begins a journey where she will learn a lot about herself.

Kate L. Mary has written an intense dystopian novella which is not only thought-provoking, but touches on many themes. It goes in depth into the hierarchy of the different groups and their social standings. The pace of the book is even at first but soon speeds up. Indra is a perfect character, and, given that the story is told in the first person, it puts the reader right in the middle of the action. However, there could have been more description with regards to the surroundings of the characters. As a first person read, it would have added to the readers’ experience. The short length of the book was disappointing. This series has a very promising start and readers will be keen for the next instalment.
