Since Stone Wheeler’s wife died he’s concentrated on two things--growing his farrier business and taking care of his son. He doesn’t need help from anyone. But when Linney Van Horn moves into the house across the way, his life is turned upside down. The defenses he’s put around his heart start to crack as he lets her in--until she says she just wants to be friends. Should he take a chance on loving her anyway?

Linney Van Horn has already let herself fall in love with a man who couldn’t love her back. She doesn’t want to make that same mistake, but she feels a connection to Stone Wheeler and his little boy, Beau that she’s never felt before. Scared to trust Stone with her heart, she backs away, but fate has something else planned. Can they ever be a family or is it too late?

This is a sweet, romantic novella that will melt your heart! Stone is the ultimate cowboy, proud and fierce, protective and kind. His scenes with his little boy are touching. The author is particularly talented in realistically drawing the emotional interactions between the characters as they deal with each complication. At times, the pacing dragged, but the reader is so invested in the story it is easy to overlook. The characters do rely on their faith and some divine intervention, but it didn’t feel preachy or overdone. A charming Western read that will make you believe in happily-ever-afters.
