Genre:
Historical

REGENCY:  Brette Culpepper is a born matchmaker - or so she thinks. When Alexander Hawksworth is a witness to her latest disaster, she wants to push him away, but finds herself drawn to him instead. Alex isn’t comfortable with his position as rector but does his best to serve his fellowman. When Brette catches his eye he can’t get her out of his mind. Their social stations prevent them from being anything more than acquaintances, however, until mysteries from the past are uncovered. But things go from bad to worse for both of them when Brette’s legitimacy is questioned and Alex is accused of murder. Will the decisions of the past prevent Alexander and Brette from ever having a future together?

This historical romance has enough twists and turns to keep any reader turning pages just to see what will happen next! The characters are well-drawn and entertaining, with just enough drama to keep the story grounded in the time period. The dialogue between Brette and Alexander is witty and fun, making it easy to see the sparks between them from the beginning. With so much going on, though, there are times when depth and pacing were sacrificed to present another crisis in the main characters’ lives. This made it difficult for the reader to experience an emotional connection from start to finish. However, the romance was engaging, and readers will be rooting for the main characters to find their happily-ever-after. It’s definitely a story historical fans will love!
