Ronnie’s ultimate goal is to play violin for the New York Philharmonic and she will not let anything get in the way of her goals — not even her dyslexia.  Scott cannot control the tics brought on by Tourette’s Syndrome, except when he begins to play his violin and the music sweeps him away.  After an audition for a local orchestra lands Ronnie in second chair to Scott’s first, she is even more determined to prove herself and sets out to loathe him. The more she watches him play and inspire a community, however, Ronnie begins to wonder if the competition is worth losing a man she could love.

“In Tune Out of Sync" is an amazing story of overcoming all odds and not allowing a disability to stand in the way of one’s dreams.  Ronnie and Scott are great examples of how a learning disability or a physical disability should never put limitations on a life.  Ms. Forest builds a great world around these two characters, highlighting how love and support opposed to fear and negativity can truly shape one's identity.  Anyone who suffers with or knows someone with dyslexia or Tourette’s Syndrome will relate to this book.  The knowledge and research behind both is spot on, but one must remember this is one example — one glimpse and not all encompassing.  The only flaw found in this heartwarming story is that the ending came without enough depth and explanation. Fortunately this does not alter the overall experience of the story.
