Broken Melody (Graffii on Tour #1)

Genre:
Contemporary

Maddox Colt has spent the past months drowning his pain in alcohol and bad choices, putting his life and his music career at risk. The label for Graffiti, his band, is fed up with the bad press and issues an ultimatum: add a new band member or find a new label.  Maddox hates the idea and is determined to find a way out, until he hears Sailor Blue sing.

Sailor wants nothing more than to start over in LA, to blend into the crowd and maybe make a few friends.  When the bar she works at starts up a karaoke night, getting up to sing isn't meant to amount to anything more than a good time.  However, when Graffiti's manager hears her sing and offers a chance to audition for the band, Sailor is thrust into an adventure she never could imagine.

“Broken Melody” sweeps the reader into a story of two broken hearts, love of music, and a chance to mend the past.  Writing in a dual perspective, Ms. Miller creates a distinct voice for Maddox and Sailor, and truly brings the reader into the mind and emotions of each character.  The main problem is that the revelation of the secrets both Sailor and Maddox are keeping takes too long. The result is a lack of true connection to the characters until the end, and a finale that feels rushed.  Even with these few missed notes, Ms. Miller delivers a solid beginning to a new series that leaves the reader crying for an encore.
