InD'Ear: Romance Audiobooks Climbing The Charts!

Carla
Mercer-Meyer

June was an exciting month for the audiobook industry. Along with its celebration of audiobooks (called "June Is Audiobook Month", or “JIAM”), it produced a phenomenal group of 2017 Audie winners—announced on June 1st—to congratulate along with several narrators, publishers, and authors who deserve recognition for their excellent work. Some of the winners are:
Audiobook of the Year
"Hamilton: The Revolution" by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter—Narrated by Mariska Hargitay, with the authors, published by Hachette Audio
Best Female Narrator
"Be Frank With Me" by Julia Claiborne Johnson—Narrated by Tavia Gilbert, published by HarperAudio
Best Male Narrator
"Jerusalem" by Alan Moore—Narrated by Simon Vance, published by Recorded Books
You can see a complete listing of the winners at www.audiopub.org/winners. Huzzah to all nominees and winners from all of us here at InD’Ear!
There are two more categories of Audie winners that deserve mention:
Romance
Dirty by Kylie Scott—Narrated by Andi Arndt, published by Macmillan Audio
Erotica:
"Marriage Games" by CD Reiss—Narrated by Sebastian York and Elena Wolfe, published by Flip City Media Inc.
The reason I bring these two up, specifically, is because we would like to talk a little about audiobook Romances, and the men and women who narrate them.
Romance novels are a billion-dollar industry and make up more than 34 percent of novels sold in the United States and worldwide, and the numbers are rising.
