Recharging the Batteries

Time always seems to fly by so quickly. Minutes turn to hours, hours to days, days to weeks, and so on. The daily drain on our souls takes a toll, both physically and mentally, until all we want to do is plop down on the couch and melt into the cushions like a lifeless blob. That is actually a rather odd visual, sorry about that, but I think you all get my meaning. We take time for granted and never seem to put aside personal me time like we should. Of course, there’s always ice cream, a romantic comedy, and maybe a snuggly blanket. But with work, kids, bills, spouses, cats, food, traffic, running out of coffee, and everything else this crazy world can throw at us, it’s no wonder we run ourselves ragged and become in desperate need of some kind of vacation.
Sometimes we need to force ourselves to take a little personal time just to do the things we love. It could be binge watching a favorite TV show, or a series of movies we never had the time to really enjoy. Or my favorite, reading the books I never get to on my To-Be-Read pile. You see how I snuck in a reading reference? I’m getting good at this.
I’m bringing all this up because I have noticed that I, and my friends, always seem to be scrambling. We try to do everything we can by cramming it into a week off work. We end up more tired and broke because, instead of taking a real vacation and doing a lot of nothing, we try to do it all at once.
