Romantic Heros... Sweet or Sexy?

Most of us have a favourite fictional hero – or a few favourites perhaps. There are the archetypes Heathcliffe, Rochester and Darcy whom we now see repeated many times in fiction, since they inspire our dreams. But would we really want them if we met them?
Of course I am speaking to the women here, but in some respects I believe the same applies to men. We all dream of the perfect romantic companion, but that is very rarely the type of person we choose to marry.
So what on earth, for us romantically inclined women, is the attraction of the bad boy – the high handed and arrogant aristocrat – the over confidant and autocratic lover? Why are the really nice men in literature rarely sexy?
