The Author's Desk

Surprisingly, an “author’s desk” isn’t really a big wooden affair with a battered computer, a pile of tumbling papers, scribbled half-full notepads, and a jumble of pens (half of which don’t work). Our real desk is – quite simply – inside our heads.
This is because we must always start with inspiration. It is our bread and butter, and without it I cannot see any creative endeavours actually turning out to be particularly creative.Yet some authors have times of inspirational drought, this is usually called writer’s block, or just plain imagination melt-down. I must admit I do not ever suffer from this malady, and actually think it is far rarer than films would have us believe. It seems writers of film scripts cannot imagine writers of fiction doing anything interesting beyond being frustrated and blocked! I can think of a dozen or more films presenting this situation. Yet in real life, I know of absolutely none.
