Archetyping: Diva or Siren?

Did you see “Edge of Tomorrow”, the movie with Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise? Emily Blunt has had some pretty amazing roles, but this one was gritty, edgy, and a whole lot of kick-A! I was impressed. Especially because it was a great example of a Diva archetype. Oh, BTW, don’t ever call them that. They don’t like it. Use different words like Boss or...Your Majesty. Unfortunately, most of the Diva roles are portrayed as villains of the story, rather than heroines—think Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada” or Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil. It may have something to do with that fact that most people are afraid of them. Okay, it has a lot to do with it. Divas and Sirens are similar in this way, but for very different reasons.
